How I Work

My approach to teaching and learning was born out of a deep belief that talent, ability and intelligence in our children are open to change and growth.

By placing my students' strengths at the centre of their learning experiences, I strive not only to improve their educational outcomes but, more importantly, the way they think and feel about themselves and their future.

One to One and Online Tutoring

The best way to address learning challenges is to take a course of customized sessions from a qualified and experienced educational specialist. Every learner's needs are unique and many aspects of their environment need to be taken into consideration when designing an individualised program.

As a rule, each program is set up following consultations with parents and where necessary with teachers, and is based on observations, screening and identified goals for improvement. Student progress is evaluated continuously.

About tuition:

  • Students are taught 1:1

  • Sessions last an hour

  • Each learner has a program tailored to their unique needs

  • Programmes can be set up at your home, in my office or online

In School Support

All students are unique and sometimes it can be difficult to accommodate their individual learning needs in a mainstream classroom, particularly when specialist training is required for such support. Luckily, many schools welcome specialist teachers for tailored in-school tuition or in-class support to address areas of need.

If you are a school looking for a specialist teacher, please get in touch. For the last six years I have been working with an international school in Lisbon providing support to their dyslexic students.

Together we:

  • Create multisensory learning opportunities

  • Address literacy challenges

  • Learn how to set one’s own study goals

  • Understand the most useful learning strategies

  • Develop competence and love for learning

  • Cultivate growth mindset, persistence and perseverance

Screening

Prior to starting any individualised programme, I carry out screening to highlight strengths and challenges, understand individual styles of learning and inform professional decisions about what educational, behavioural or developmental intervention will be appropriate. Student's progress is evaluated on a regular basis.

Types of assessments:

  • Dyslexia screening

  • Academic skills of reading, spelling and maths

  • Oral reading fluency and comprehension

  • Phonological awareness and phonological memory

  • Working memory

  • Handwriting

  • Sensory screening
